Despite his recent health issues he is doing much better and has even continued to design and develop new products. Over the last few of years I have suggested a couple new grips to Lane for development. One of the grips was an extension for the 45acp XD series pistols.

Lane let me know that he finally had some working prototypes of the New XD45acp grip and if I wanted to test some of them out. A few days latter I get a package with some of the prototype grips including the finalized packaging.

The new grip is part of Pearce Grip, Inc`s long line of grip extensions. The new model, stock number PGXD45 is meant to replace the base plates to all XD45acp magazines. The PG-XD45 will not work with XD magazines made for the 45GAP. 45GAP users should use the older Stock number PG-XD extension.

The new grip extension includes the Mag-Trac™ system to identify all of your magazines. Instead of taking a marker and numbering your magazines the Mag-Trac™ has five circle indention's that can be marked with paint allowing an easy and clean identification of you magazines.
Since these were working prototypes they were lacking the pebble texture of a finalized product but over all they looked awesome.

One improvement Lane has added is grenade checkering to the front of the grip extension to more closely match the front strap of the XD series pistols. The extension will add an inch to your grips length, just enough to give your whole hand a solid platform for shooting.

This extension does not add any capacity to you magazine and is therefore California safe. To add the extension to your pistol simply remove the base plate from your magazine. Push the grip onto the magazine and over the stock locking plate. The friction fit plus the locking plate combine for a rock solid fit.

To test durability I dropped a fully loaded magazine five times onto a concrete slab. I used my standard shooting stance and just as I would in a competition ejected the magazine from my pistol. Other than some of the rounds popping out of the top of the magazine the grip held on and did not fail. The bottom of the magazine was cushioned by the polymer and the grip was scratched but was not cracked or broken.

Over all like any of the other products from Pearce Grip, Inc this is no exception. The fit and the finish looked like it was OEM and not an aftermarket product. The new front grenade checkering only adds to its looking like it belongs on the pistol as well as adding extra purchase for your fingers.

Although it adds no capacity it does make it easier to shoot subcompact pistols. There is a rumor that I got from a good source that other XD grips are in the works that will add capacity but no time lines are available at this time. This is being officially released at the 2008 Shot Show and should show up on dealer shelves sometime in February 2008 with an average retail price of around $10.00. The original Pearce XD extension was released in 2003 and I am happy to say that this follow up is just as good with improvements over the popular original.
Related Links:

www.pearcegrip.com

New Site

This is an experiment. Hopefully this will allow me an easily updated format where I can publish various reviews and different articles. As far as I know this will be a first in the firearms industry and a little different. This will be sort of a living review since others will be able to post comments and/or add extra information that I may not have thought about. I have discussed this idea with several large firearms accessory companies, and they are very interested and enthusiastic about this idea. The plan is to get these products reviewed before the 2008 Shot Show. The site will also allow me to publish firearms news including full live coverage from the Shot Show. Through the month of January I have articles coming for:

Viridian Laser Aiming Systems Corporation

Fobus Holsters

Pearce Grips

Large Magazine manufacture I can`t name yet

Wrentech Industries, LLC.
